Last updated: 31 August 2026 · applies to the Gong iOS app and gongalarm.app
The short version
Gong is built so there is almost nothing to collect. The app has no account system, no server of ours, and no microphone permission — it cannot listen to you. Camera frames used for missions are processed on your iPhone and are never stored or transmitted.
The app
- Camera: used only to verify missions (for example, that you're standing). Frames are analysed on-device with Apple's Vision framework and immediately discarded. Nothing is stored, nothing is sent.
- Anchor photos: when you set up an anchor, only a mathematical embedding is stored on your device — not the photo.
- Motion: step counts (if you enable step verification) stay on your device.
- Location: only if you enable weather, and only to fetch a forecast via Apple's WeatherKit. You can instead set a city manually, which requires no location permission.
- Alarm history, streaks and medals: stored on your device only. They are lost if you lose the device — that is the honest price of not having a server.
- Purchases: processed by Apple. Subscription validation uses RevenueCat with anonymous identifiers; we cannot link a purchase to who you are.
- No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. No advertising. No App Tracking Transparency prompt, because there is no tracking.
This website
- Waitlist: if you join, we store your email address and the signup time — nothing else — to send you at most a beta invitation and a launch announcement. Unsubscribe by replying to any email, and we delete the address.
- Cookies and analytics: the site currently sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
